Even in Mumbai winter clothes have started coming out of the closets. Mumbaikars are also waiting for a tini-mini drop in temperature, while entire northern-India is already covered in fog. And while you may still wanna stay in your cozy couches at home, there’s no denying that everybody is excited to vaunt there winter wardrobe. However, cold weather also means dry & sensitive skin, frizzy hair, chappy lips and of course cracked heels! The solution to enjoy the most amazing time of the year without having to worry about all of these problems is an amazing "Winter Skin-Care routine". And I have just got one for you. Right from your head to toe, everything is taken care of so that you can be glowing and smooth-skinned all winter long.

Removing your make-up at night is very important for getting rid of all the makeup products, dirt, and pollution. It helps you in maintaining a clear skin tone and avoiding blemishes and acne. Use lukewarm water to lather up the cleanser and help break down the make-up on your face. Spend at least a minute going over your face ensuring you’ve cleansed all areas. Prefer cleansers that contain moisturizers to avoid stripping your skin of its natural moisture barrier.

Do not I repeat do not use any product that contains alcohol as it will make your skin dry during the winter. Toners containing natural cleansing agents help in maintaining the delicate pH balance of the skin and you'll be surprised to see how much dirt and residue a cotton swab and toner can remove that has been missed by the cleanser. Toner that suits your skin will not only make it calm but also prepare your skin for absorbing the night cream or serum that you may use. Trust me you don't wanna skip this step, it is the most important part of your skin-care routine. It hydrates your skin like nothing else.

Here is a lil secret, regular use of moisturizers not only helps in reducing skin dryness but they also reduce the chances of developing extreme oiliness. So if you have oily skin you don't have to shy away from moisturizers anymore. Moisturizing reduces the chances of skin problems because when the skin is too dry or too oily, many common skin problems like acne start to pop up. Moisturizing can reduce the appearance of blemishes, helps your skin stay young, and fights wrinkles. It’s the perfect end to a hot shower.

Stay hydrated, drink as much as water you can.

Lips can get really chappy, use a good lip balm to keep them hydrated.

Do not skip sunscreen at any cost. The warm sun rays feel pleasant, but the UV rays can still damage your skin a lot.

Exfoliate your skin but not too much. It surely helps in getting rid of the dead cells but if overdone it can also damage the skin.

Not just in summers, sunglasses are a must in every season. Show some love to your lovely eyes and wear good quality UV protected sunglasses.

It doesn’t have to be elaborate but follow a skin-care routine daily.

Take care of your diet and consume a lot of seasonal fruits. Berries are exceptional sources of vitamins and antioxidants that your skin needs to stay healthy during the cold weather.

Yes !! I know its extremely difficult to get out of the warm and cozy blanket but regular exercise is very very important, not only for your skin but also for your overall health.

Opt for mild, soap-free Shower gels to nourish your skin. Keep your showers short and not excessively hot. Longer and hotter showers will make your skin, even more, drier and it will strip away all the natural oils from your skin.

If your skin has become dehydrated, dry and flaky, you need to get rid of the dead cells that are blocking moisture from entering your skin. You can use a soft loofah in the shower or mild a body scrub at least twice a week. Massage your skin with a loofah or use scrub gently all over your body with your hands and make sure your skin is damp enough or else you'll end up irritating your skin.

In winter the weather is extremely dry and harsh on the skin. Your natural body oils are not quite enough to provide the moisture your skin needs. You need extra moisturizer instantly after your shower because during winter hot water can strip away all your natural oils. Slather the lotion on to your skin while it is still damp. Avoid creams and lotions with fragrances and preservatives because they can further dry your skin causing irritation.

Let's be honest, hands and toes are the most ignored parts of our body. We all take great efforts to moisturize our face and body but our hands and feet are always forgotten. So the secret of the beautiful baby like hands and feet is to moisturize them intensely right after shower and before going to bed. And to add some extra suppleness, pull on a pair of socks and if you're willing to take a step further wear a pair of fuzzy gloves as well. This will not only keep you warm but also lock in moisturizer and make your skin look new and healthy.

While sunscreen may seem like a complete summer concept, it is equally essential in winter as well. India lies in a tropical region, hence it is exposed to harmful UV rays throughout the year whether its summer or winter. So do not think of skipping SPF. Make sure you apply a generous amount of sunscreen before stepping out in the sun. Also do not forget to reapply it every few hours especially if you're outdoors.
